BEC TC 65: Gateway for Belgian stakeholders to the implementing standards of the EU Cyber Resilience Act

30.06.2025

The EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is a regulation adopted in October 2024 to enhance cybersecurity across the European Union.

The EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is a regulation adopted in October 2024 to enhance cybersecurity across the European Union. It establishes mandatory cybersecurity requirements for manufacturers, importers, and distributors of products with digital elements (PDEs), encompassing both hardware and software that connect directly or indirectly to networks.

The European Commission adopted in February 2025 a standardization request (M/606) calling for the development of horizontal and vertical harmonized standards to support the essential cybersecurity requirements of the CRA. The standardization request is addressed to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI as it covers a broad range of sectors and industries.

IEC 62443 is a series of international standards that focus on the cybersecurity for Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) and that is used in a wide range of industries, beyond IACS, to cover the security of operational technologies (OT) at large.

CRA

This is why more and more stakeholders in the OT domain are looking at the IEC 62443 to facilitate the compliance of their products with the CRA.

CLC/TC 65X is responsible for the IEC 62443 series in Europe. The BEC TC 65 has adopted several standards of the series as European standards.

Since EN IEC 62443 is relevant to support compliance with the essential cybersecurity requirements of the CRA (in particular -4-1, -4-2 and -3-3), CLC/TC 65/WG 3 ‘cyber security’ is currently looking at updating the related European standards to make them fit to the CRA cybersecurity essential requirements.

For companies located in Belgium, the national TC 65 is the channel to monitor the activities of CLC/TC 65X/WG 3 and, most important, to include the companies position in the relevant EN IEC 62443 chapters. Currently the BEC TC 65 is chaired by Constant Kohler, Siemens Brussels Office. Luc Vinckx (+32 476 32 78 24), technical officer at BEC, is acting as the secretary and is available to answer all your questions with respect to participation.
