IEC User Account Lifecycle Principles

20.01.2026

As part of the IEC's ongoing work to strengthen cybersecurity and protect IEC systems, IEC is introducing updated Account Lifecycle Principles that apply to all IEC user accounts. These principles are important for ensuring that only active and authorized users can access IEC platforms

What will change?

  • If a user does not log in for 6 months, their account will be marked as inactive, and access will be temporarily suspended. The user can easily restore access by resetting their password.
  • If the account remains inactive for and additional 6 months, it will be locked.
  • A locked account cannot be accessed. It can only be reactivated by the National Committee or by the IEC Secretariat (support@iec.ch) following analysis to confirm that the account is legitimate.

Timeline

  • Monitoring of user inactivity began in Q4 2024.
  • As of Q4 2025, accounts with no activity in the past 6 months are recorded as inactive.
  • If no activity is recorded in the next 6 months, these accounts will be locked.

We encourage you to log in to your IEC account soon to keep it active, especially if you have not used it recently, as your cooperation helps IEC maintain a secure, reliable, and well-managed digital environment for all IEC users.
