“Online Standards Development” (OSD) will be the new standard for commenting and consolidating comments as from 2025
From 2023, IEC is working on the implementation of a new tool for authoring and commenting on draft standards, the “Online Standards Development” (OSD) system. BEC and other national committees have been working on various pilot projects to refine the OSD system.
The core of the OSD system is an XML based document editing system that allows authors (members of a WG/MT/PT) and several “commentors” from the national committees at the commenting stages, to include their comments and/or amendments on a proposal. The BEC technical officer validates the national comments and the WG discusses, approves or rejects the various comments. The WG can also include a new compromise text.
The tool can be used:
- For the development of new proposals in IEC/CENELEC WG/PT/MTs.
- For the consolidation of BEC comments on IEC/CENELEC proposals at the level of a BEC TC
In the latter case, the BEC technical officer in charge is validating and consolidating the comments.
The BEC secretariat arranged to grant all members of a BEC TC automatically access to the OSD system and thus allowing them to comment on all proposals in their particular TC through OSD. OSD is activated by clicking on the OSD link in the document shared by IEC/CENELEC.
OSD will be used for all new IEC projects as from 2025 and for all new CENELEC projects as from 2026.
