The Importance of Instrument Transformers
Instrument transformers may seem small, but they are vital to modern power systems:

  • Protection: Current transformers detect faults and trigger circuit breakers
  • Revenue Metering: Ensure accurate billing for large consumers
  • Grid Monitoring: Supply essential data to SCADA systems in digital substations
  • Renewables: Standardized transformers support safe integration of wind and solar energy

Standards developed through BEC, CENELEC, and IEC TC 38 ensure these devices are accurate, safe, interoperable, and reliable, supporting efficient and future-ready power systems.

Call for Experts

To continue this important work, BEC TC 38 is seeking new experts and a chairman. Whether from industry, academia, or utilities, your expertise can help shape the next generation of instrument transformer standards and keep Belgium at the forefront of European and international standardization.
