BEC is organizing modular trainings on standardization.

Within this series, the following courses are planned in 2026:

The training is aiming at fostering the knowledge of the experts in order to facilitate their participation in the standardization works.

The trainings are free of charge for all employees from BEC member companies, whether they belong to the standardization department or not. For other interested parties, the participation fee is 100 Euro + VAT per half-day. An invoice will be sent upon registration.

HAS System and the Interplay with Union Harmonized Legislation / New Legislative Framework

Aim: to understand the interplay of standards and legislation in Europe

Audience: experts with a moderate understanding in standardization and compliance

  • Concept of a Harmonized Standard and the presumption of conformity with EU legislation (± 60 minutes):
    • Overview of the “new approach”, as governed by the New Legislative Framework (NLF)
    • Link between the essential requirements of NLF regulations and Harmonized Standards
    • Process of elaboration of the Harmonized Standard and the obtention of a presumption of conformity upon citation in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU)
  • Concept of a Standardization Request/Mandate (SREQ) (± 60 minutes):
    • Overview of the relevant stakeholders involved in the elaboration of the SREQ
    • Involvement of the European Standardization Organizations (CEN/CENELEC/ETSI) in the development and finetuning of the SREQ
    • Involvement of National Standardization Organizations (BE : NBN/BEC) and National Authorities in the formal voting process on the SREQ through the Committee on Standards (CoS)
  • Elaboration and assessment of a candidate Harmonized Standard (± 45 minutes):
    • Requirements and checklist for a candidate Harmonized Standard to be cited in the OJEU
    • Involvement of the HAS-system in evaluating the presumption of conformity
    • Formal objections, citations with restrictions and the partial presumption of conformity

Deep-dive in Standards Development Processes
