CEN and CENELEC Members Commit to Building the Future of European Standardization
Cyprus, June 2026 – During the General Assemblies in Cyprus, the 43 members of CEN and CENELEC came together to reaffirm their shared commitment to the future of European standardization.
The newly adopted Cyprus Commitments reflect a common ambition: to ensure that the European Standardization System remains relevant, effective and trusted in a rapidly changing world. Members expressed their support for the Long-Term Vision and the key initiatives that will help bring it to life, including the Standardization Hub, a renewed Value Proposition and a modernized business model.
A major focus of the commitments is the digital transformation of standards. As industries and regulations become increasingly digital, members agreed to support the evolution of standards from traditional documents into structured, machine-readable content that can be more easily integrated into everyday business and regulatory processes.
At the same time, the commitments underline the importance of preserving the principles that make European standards successful: consensus, transparency, inclusiveness and strong national participation.
Looking ahead, members also pledged to strengthen cooperation with international partners and European policymakers, while ensuring that all national members can play an active role in the transformation, regardless of their size or starting point.
The message from Cyprus is clear: the future of European standardization will be shaped collectively, with members taking the lead in building a system that is more digital, more connected and ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges.
