IEC Guidance on the Use of AI in Technical Work

The IEC has introduced a new guidance document to support the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI, across its technical committees.

This living document is designed to ensure that the design, development, deployment, and use of AI technologies align with IEC values and remain lawful and trustworthy throughout the development and maintenance of IEC standards and deliverables.

Built on key principles such as accountability, respect for privacy, avoidance of bias, safety by design, and transparency, the guidance outlines clear rules, procedures, and best practices. It applies to all officers and experts involved in IEC technical work and will continue to evolve as technologies and use cases develop.
